About Vanessa Jean
Vanessa Jean Boscarello Ovens, Grad. Dip Applied Psychology, has a raw food and wholefood cooking pedigree that is steeped in family tradition.
Born to a Sicilian father and Maltese mother Vanessa’s love for organic, wholesome food bursting with natures flavours and goodness comes from generations of passionate, authentic ethnic cooking experience combining her Nonno’s natural herb medicine wisdom and her Nonna’s and Nana’s celebrated skills in the kitchen.
Vanessa has coupled this generational wisdom and experience gifted to her by her forebears with the learning's gained over years assisting perhaps Perth’s best known wholefood chef, Jude Blereau.
Her foodie heritage coupled with her innate skill in the kitchen, an uncanny knack of inventively combining ingredients in ways that will surprise and delight the most discerning palettes, have turned her many hundreds of past students from interested and inquisitive seekers of new foodie knowledge and skills into raving fans.
Vanessa’s joy filled teaching style emanates from her deep connection to the earth, her passion for returning our bodies to their natural healthy state through organic nutrition and her generosity of spirit. The fun filled and inspiring classes have past attendees coming back in droves.
Her background in psychology coupled with her career spanning two decades in aromatherapy, sound healing and raw and wholefood cooking give her a unique insight among her peers delivering holistic outcomes for her students that go far beyond teaching the combining of ingredients into meals that fuel our physical bodies.
Each class is a journey and unfolding of knowledge that will infuse body, mind and spirit with renewed vigour and life through one of humankind's’ greatest loves….food!

Raw or Not To Raw ?
WHAT – Raw Vs Cooked Food & Organic vs. Non Organic Foods
WHEN – Sunday 30 August
Raw food vs. Cooked Food & Organic vs. Non Organic Foods
By Mark Doneddu - President of Vegetarian Victoria
One of the fastest growing food trends in the world is the Raw Food movement. However there has been little spoken about the science of why people have achieved amazing improvements in health by adopting this diet.
This talk presents a lot of the scientific research on this subject. It also explains the reasons why many thrive on this diet and yet others do not. Recent media reports conceded that there lower pesticides in organic produce compared to conventional produce but yet also reported that there is little difference in the mineral an vitamin content.
The evidence regarding this subject as well as that surrounding Genetically Modified Foods will also be discussed.
The presentation will focus on;
• Do increased levels of lycopene obtained from cooked tomatoes compared to raw tomatoes result in greater levels of health?
• How important are the enzymes in raw food?
• What exactly is destroyed through cooking?
• Why do some many raw vegan athletes achieve amazing results and yet some people struggle on the same diet?
• Are all raw diets the same and can some raw foods eaten in excess be detremental?
• What are the benefits of cooked vegan foods?
$15 with a Mantra Lounge meal.
