WHAT: Embodying Your Spiritual Family Tree
DATE: Wednesday 15 October
MORE: This four-part Nalanda Institute seminar introduces the art of spiritual re-parenting in the Nalanda tradition, considered by all Tibetan schools the most effective way of ripening our minds and nervous systems for blissful, altruistic engagement with all life and the earth we share. By consciously upgrading our traumatic development with heroic imagery and affirmation, safe in the healing circle of a spiritual mentor family and community, this art catalyzes the alchemical rewiring we need to embody a blissfully integrated open self and world. We first unpack this art as the unexcelled vehicle for traveling the gradual path to blissful openness, the living-breathing womb in which we can naturally develop all four limbs we need for that path: mindful well-being, altruistic openness, healing vision, and sublime passion. We then explore its universal human logic and depth-psychological method, both in terms of Buddhist contemplative science and in terms of modern neuropsychology. Our journey is based on the heart teachings of the Ganden-Kagyu tradition of Tibet, as distilled in the masterful, all-encompassing practice of Mentor Devotion, by the first Panchen Lama, Losang Chokyi Gyaltsan. We also flesh out this practice with the spiritual biography of Tibet’s first home-grown Master Altruist, the beloved cotton-clad yogi Milarepa.
